Jonwayne - Thanks, bro

Free beat tape here courtesy of Jonwayne. Not the actor, he dead son.

Jonwayne is a young producer/mc signed to the LA label, Alpha pup records. He released the instrumental album "Bowser" earlier this year and has recently offered up a beat tape of some older tracks for free download. His weapons of choice are no more than a laptop, an sp404 sampler and a grip of sample material (more notably videogame samples)

Here is an introduction to the mans music

What i like about his music is not only that he makes the best of limited equipment, but his beats have a certain element of fun missing from a lot of music these days. His tracks also have a wide appeal, drawing influences from not only hiphop but videogame and chiptune music.

Now on to the beat tape. The 19 tracks included in the download are some of his older works, less adventurous than his more recent output, but equally as good. I would, for comparisons sake, liken them to J Dilla's older beats, same kind of boom bap instrumental hiphop with chopped up loops from old funk, soul and soundtrack lp's.

The quote below is taken from the text file included with the download.

"I want you to have this. This download contains songs that I wanted to give you but either due to poor timing, politics or my sad attempt at quality control, never did.  But here I am.  and here you are.  and here are these songs that I want to give you.  I give them for free now because they are no longer relevant to what I'm trying to do at the moment.  I am working on different sounds and trying to go to different places than the sounds and places that are presented, here. So take them.  I've supplied a bit of reading material for each track, just to let you know what was going on when I made it and all that jazz."

The afformentioned reading material is a nice addition, with details of his location at the time of making the tracks and what inspired them.

And you can download the tracks here via mediafire >>  Thanks, bro

  4. These sound pretty strange.
I agree with "Gareth Thomas", that including those notes is cool. It's interesting to see, what mindset he had when creating these.

  19. That's a pretty cool beat. Viva electronic keyboards. This could have been on the Tron soundtrack.
